omg shoes.

i am definitely NOT a fan of drawing realistic stuff... most of my ideas are more reserved for drawing crazy, wild, and extreme stuff. but to be honest i did have a little more fun than usual drawing my first shoe. it's a bit disappointing to see it on the computer screen, it looks so much better in person haha. in the first step i just started out drawing the shoe and shading minimal details, then in the second one i tried using a criss-cross shading technique in an effort to try getting the canvas texture... but it kind sucked, so i ended up blending it all with a roll of paper towel and it actually looked a bit more matte and overall, a little bit better. it only took about two and a half hours. i feel a little cruddy about it now that i think about it, but there's always more room for improvements i guess. :/

  1. I think your shoe looks really nice actually! I like how smooth you made parts looks and all the different crumpled areas.

  2. I like the shoe too. I like how you applied the values to the pattern on the inside compared to the outside. I also am attracted to the dark shadows. Thanks for posting the progression. What are you going to do for Ma and Pa.

  3. I shaded with paper as well. It is actually better than cross hatching because it matches the texture of most shoes; leather. Good detail on the picture inside the shoe.
