i'm SO surreal! [/sarcasm]

how the heck am i going to get this on bigger paper? i really don't want to work anymore. only today and tomorrow until school starts... -___-; plus i'm starting to run out of ideas and the bigger paper i have for this piece is not gonna do well with paint. so, pretty much, i'm screwed!

finished!

i wish people can see all the shiny beads and gloss finish on this, but everytime i put it in a light it would just shine too bright (that rhymed!). when i first got this mystery bag, i was devastated. i wanted to kill whoever made my bag -- they gave me almost NOTHING to work with! all i had were a bunch of strings and ribbons and a couple of bead necklaces! robyn, hailey, ian -- if you guys are reading this, just so you know, i hated all three of you for a moment when i opened my mystery bag.

i ended up cutting the necklaces and just scattered the beads all over the painting. the bottle caps were a nice addition though, i have to admit. i think it balanced out the overall pretty-ness i was going over and just kind of gave it a more interesting look rather than just "pretty" (idk if that made any sense, w/e). i almost regret putting the strings on there, i don't quite like it. but in the end i think i'm still a bit satisfied with what i was able to achieve. it was my first time trying out anything like this, so i'm not too bothered by my lack of planning/quality (those of you who know me well enough know that all my drawings are wacky, animated, and just plain weird).

[sigh] things can only get better from here, right?

almost there...

after many cussing and swearing out of frustration, i'm finally getting it to look somewhat remotely close to what i've wanted. i'd start painting random blotches in random parts and end up not liking what i was doing, so i'd have to paint over it again and redo the whole thing entirely over. i just need to stick a few more things on here and i'll be satisfied with the fact i've finished my work.

work itttttt.

Leonid Afremov

i've always seen his artwork floating around and it always killed me to have pictures of his paintings saved on my computer with me not even knowing who he is. but after much research (typing in random nonsense into google like, "colorful cityscape" and "street light painting") i finally found out who this amazing artist was. i want to jump inside every one of his pictures and live there. just looking at these has a soothing effect and i feel a bit nostalgic looking at them. you don't get beautiful city scenary in oregon -- simply because we don't have big cities to begin with. one of the very few moments when i start missing jersey more than ever.
